Santa Clarita Elementary Showcases Science in ‘Rockets and Robots’ Assembly

Video and Story by Halie Cook

Children at Santa Clarita Elementary School had the opportunity today to learn about science at a special assembly that was put on by the PTA Thursday.

The Rockets and Robots assembly was hosted by Bob Redman, a space education specialist, who showcased toy rockets, model robots and science experiments.

“Its entertaining for the kids, from kindergarten all the way through sixth grade and even after that,” said Redman. “Everybody gets something out of it, even the teachers.”

The assembly was shown to all grade levels and gave student volunteers the opportunity to be a part of the show by participating in one of the experiments.

Redman had two volunteers hold each end of two trash bags and used a blow dryer to blow hot air into the bags to send it flying toward the ceiling.

“I actually try to give the kids demonstrations they can recreate at home,” said Redman. “The trash bag demonstration is an easy fun way to teach them how things can get into the air.”
