Front Lines: Women in Combat

Library of Congress Presents:

Front Lines: Women in Combat

Dr. Jill Biden moderated a conversation with Michael Grant and two female combat soldiers inspired by Grant’s newest historical fiction novel, “Front Lines,” which imagines women fighting alongside men in WWII. In front of an audience of several hundred teens from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area U.S. Army Reserve Capt. Rebecca Murga and U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kristen Hansen spoke about their own personal combat experiences as military women. Dr. Biden invited the audience to question the presenters in order to help them understand more completely the concept of historical fiction in literature and by comparing and contrasting WWII and 21st Century military life. Produced by the Young Readers Center as part of the Library of Congress’s annual Jonah Solkoff Eskin Memorial program.
