LINER NOTES: With 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, 3 saxes and a traditional rhythm section, The Little Big Band is the current iteration of the Skip Spiro Band. Spiro (trumpet, flugelhorn, valve trombone) grew up in the New York jazz scene, formed his first band at age 14 and, while still in high school, performed on “The Merv Griffin Show” and jammed several times with Maynard Ferguson. He formed another band in college (University of Massachusetts) and toured New England. Eventually he moved to the West Coast, where he has appeared with Spiral Staircase, Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers, “The Wolfman Jack Show” and Tina Turner. A Santa Clarita resident today, Spiro leads “The Little Big Band” — powerful enough to belt out a full big-band sound, yet small enough for each band member to express his or her individual creativity.
