Smyth & First Dog Urge Support for Municipal Shelter Spay-Neuter Fund

Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, represents California’s 38th Assembly District.

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth (R- Santa Clarita), joined by First Dog Sutter Brown, has released a public service announcement asking Californians to support the Municipal Spay-Neuter Fund.

With the April 15th tax deadline fast-approaching, Assemblyman Smyth and Sutter Brown urge Californians to donate to the Municipal Spay-Neuter Fund when they file their taxes.

The Municipal Spay-Neuter Fund is a voluntary contribution fund found on California’s Income Tax Return Form. More than 870,000 cats and dogs entered shelters in 2010, amounting to a price tag of nearly 250 million dollars. As California shelters struggle to maintain services, the fund will help shelters continue to provide low-cost voluntary spay and neuter programs.

“Caring for the thousands of homeless animals in California creates a significant financial burden for our municipal shelters,” said Smyth. “The voluntary contribution fund is a great opportunity for Californians to support low-cost spay and neuter services at local shelters in their community. Governor Brown, Sutter Brown, and I hope that taxpayers consider donating when they file their taxes.”
