Military Honor Christmas Tree Lighting
Uploaded 12/07/2013 Santa Clarita celebrated the annual lighting of the Military Honor Christmas Tree on Saturday night at Veterans Historical Plaza in Newhall. The tree honors all local military personnel, past and present. Prayer Angels for the Military, the SCV Young Marines and members of other military support groups were on hand for the event, which included Christmas carols, patriotic speeches and cupcakes. Setup took place Friday, thanks in part to the Prayer Angels, the city of Santa Clarita Parks Department and Andy Gump Inc., which sent a truck and a crew. Emceed by Fred Arnold, Saturday’s lineup included the following: – Pastor John Shaver of Valencia United Methodist Church (invocation) – PVT Alexis Valencia, USMC Camp Pendleton (Pledge of Allegiance) – Hart High School Carolers (National Anthem) – Councilwoman Marsha McLean (Recognition of Service Members & Veterans) – Actor Bob Zachar (Singing “The Christmas Song” and “White Christmas”) – Chuck Morris, Korean War Veteran (Keynote address) – Councilman TimBen Boydston (Recognition of Gold Star Families) – Author/Producer Marilyn Hackett (singing “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”) – SCV Young Marines (Wreath presentation donated by Prayer Angels for the Military/Suzon Gerstel) Light refreshments were provided by iDare Inc. / Nicky Dare, National Association of Professional Women
