An appellate court has ruled in favor of Newhall Land and Farming and the Department of Fish and Wildlife in a lawsuit regarding environmental reports for the future 20,000 home Newhall Ranch development.

One person was arrested and more than a dozen others were cited this week during an undercover prostitution sting in Newhall.

School board member Stephen Winkler plans to fight a lawsuit aimed to remove him from office.

Supervisor Michael Antonovich is motioning for the county board to send a letter to Governor Brown to ask for help to keep the film industry in California.

Home prices continue their steady climb. Last month the typical single-family home in the SCV rose to $439,000.

On Saturday night, Howie’s Pub in Castaic hosts a night of local alt-rock and punk rock featuring A Story Beneath, We Are Wasted, Audiokill and Pedro Van Gogh. Doors open at 8 and the cover charge is just $5.

Don’t miss Saturday night’s encore telecast and stream of our brand-new “House Blend” show featuring The Narwhals, formerly The Feaver.

  2. DL Thompson DL Thompson says:

send this project to Lancaster not here!

  3. How can they fit anymore houses in that area? Wow.

  4. The Newhall land projects will have their own high school… jr high and a couple elementarys. More traffic is being alleviated with the construction on the freeway now. There are 5 separate “villages” going in, one at a time. Get the facts…ask the questions, go to your town hall meetings, THIS IS NOT NEW… the EIR was back in 2008!

  5. Vic Feany Vic Feany says:

Funny, this is just what I said when ” Valencia” was announced!! Sure miss little Newhall.

  6. We need more roads, more schools & more grocery stores…sigh

  7. Ckay Walker Ckay Walker says:

@ David. Jobs, revenue, growth. Without proper infrastructure the long term is not a healthy out look. Just the traffic to the existing hospitals should be a major warning. Fires are common in this build area. The burden on the City and County is already massive. The added waste does not disappear…it adds up. Our landfill is full.

  8. Brian Durand Brian Durand says:

I wish more people could see / understand havoc these homes create.

  9. Cool. More herione addicts.

  10. Why we moved. Found a town just like scv was in the 80s

  11. Jobs, revenue, growth!

  12. MMP and the 126 are parallel, it doesn’t turn into anything except for….wait for it….Magic Mountain WB and the train tracks on SFR EB.

  13. Shane Weeks Shane Weeks says:

They are going to love the smell for the water reclamation plant!

  14. No more housing! I agree, we are packed enough up here.

  15. How is magic mtn parkway parallel to the 126.. I thought it turned into the 126.. Anyway,
this idea is stupid. It’s second to San Fernando valley now.. Traffic is going to be a nightmare

  16. Really! By the time the 5 is completed and all these new homes it will be out dated!

  17. Twenty THOUSAND????

  18. Michelle Lea Michelle Lea says:

Newhall Land an Farming are idiots. Its to overcrowded already. Money talks when u have it.

  19. We REALLY don’t need anymore people here.

  20. John Gilbert John Gilbert says:

Seems like they’re more interested in an environmental impact report on a little fish than the quality of life of the residents already here.

  21. This is outside SCV city limits so blame Antonovich and the County.

  22. Sean King Sean King says:

And to think they can’t even finish Central Park.

  23. Joe Powell Joe Powell says:

Then the chilly winds blew down
    Across the desert
through the canyons of the coast, to
    the Malibu
    Where the pretty people play,
    hungry for power
    to light their neon way
and give them things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land,
    Nobody caught ’em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and
    people bought them
    And they called it paradise
    The place to be
They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea

  24. Ed Halterman Ed Halterman says:

Great, just what we need more of in this valley, traffic.

  25. Ckay Walker Ckay Walker says:

Omg seriously? We are short a high School already. With the proposed Hasley Canyon build this is too much. Where will the waste go?
