One man is dead and a young mother is in critical condition after they were struck by a car on Soledad canyon road Canyon Country Tuesday night.

Detectives announced two arrests in connection with the SCV Purge, which involves allegations that child pornography was distributed by two Santa Clarita Valley high school students.

City Council members voted in favor of hiring a consulting firm to put together an Arts Master Plan at their meeting Tuesday.

Santa Clarita’s jobless rate fell to 5.2 percent in August as teachers, administrators and social workers across the county started to return from their summer break.
