A 25-year-old Canyon Country woman arrested on a murder charge over the weekend is due in court Tuesday.

Several agencies teamed up to clean up homeless encampments in the Santa Clara River wash Monday.

History buffs and those who want to learn more about the history of our community are invited to two St. Francis Dam events.

The Master’s College sophomore pitcher Jason Karkenny made history Friday when he pitched the first perfect game ever thrown in school history.

  1. Thank god ! It’s about time this got done

  2. Sarah Storr Sarah Storr says:

    Yay! Bye tweakerville!

  3. but i will b back oh yeah thank u 4 cleaning my house thats very thougthful of u

  4. thaanks 4 the info man im glad i move my camp up further up

  5. Yuliana Magana see my dad??

  6. I pause to wonder, if this were in canyon country, would there be such outrage. They need to build a homeless building in the valley, let them work for the city. Get medical help and earn their keep.

  7. That’s good. If you leave them, your inviting more to come. Each one is an individual and should be looked at and helped. Letting them live in the riverbed is not the way to help them. With so many service people being let go, there must be empty barracks some where. Bet that would encourage some to move on, get jobs, medical help for drugs or mental health.

  8. It’s so sad how quickly you all are to dismiss the homeless. Most of these men are veterans of war. They are homeless now because they came home from war and there are little to no programs to help them deal with civilian life. Most end up turning to drugs to deal with ptsd and end up homeless. These people fought for our freedom and you turn a blind eye to them. You assume they want to live this way. You are shameful disgusting hypocrites. Take off your “support our troops” stickers cause the moment they get back you tell them to screw off.

  9. Don McIntire Don McIntire says:

Very nicely done, if the people of the scv do not know now that prop 47 was passed.the homeless in the wash at boquet cyn and the junction have caused Lowe’s and the surrounding area some trouble.some of the homeless that are ridding bikes and carrying back packs cause several hundreds of dollars in lost merchandise in theft. Now it’s a lower class of crime. So be carful when you are giving them money out in front of the shopping centers.they are happy but remember how much it cost all of us.Retailers have to raise the cost of merchandise due to covering all losses. So thank you all for cleaning up the wash.Crime should go down some now.

  11. Some may think they should stay, until it’s them that is assaulted, robbed or have their customers scared and harassed! There are many businesses in that area and it has been a huge problem for all of us for over a decade!! There are options that are safe for the homeless, yet most who live in the wash are criminals and addicts. If you haven’t had to personally deal with it you can’t have an opinion that this was wrong. Besides that… it’s ILLEGAL!

  12. I walk in the wash every morning with my dogs from Sierra hwy to lost cyn.for the past six years. I’ve never been afraid of these people they have become friends. They all. have their own reasons for living there. I take them food, clothes and blankets . They are human beings people!!!!

  13. They gone learn today

  14. I watch these people steal from my work alllll day long. This needs to happen

  15. I understand it’s sad but 90 percent of these people are losers because they chose to be. There are jobs available and u people feeling bad for them what r u doing to help. I know I put money from my paycheck every two weeks to help the real people who try to work what r u doing. When u have kids and they see the drugs etc., u need to worry about the children not these lazy pieces that party all day and night and expect the working people to pay for them. I am tired of it and I am glad that our law enforcement came to the taxpayer’ a aid

  16. Stephen Gold Stephen Gold says:

Ok so where do they take the homeless did u feed them or help them or site them… What happens too them now… Can we as a community build a bigger better shelter like where the Eye sore is the Greens. U know we could build something their to help the homeless close too the Bus so they all can get to work….

    • Lora Hill Lora Hill says:

They were offered help but turn it dOwn to continue drugs

    • There are to many NIMBYs (not in my back yard) to build more shelters here. We can’t even keep the winter shelter open 365 days. I work For a mental health agency that does homeless and jail outreach along with a homeless drop in center. The stories of trauma, rejection etc are terrible! I have met professors who work in university’s living in their cars. Not everyone who is homeless wants to be homeless. I have family members who have been homeless or currently homeless but have a dual diagnosis (mental illness and drug use) drug use covers the symptoms of the mental illness. It’s a vicious cycle! I try not to let the opinions of others effect me and pray they never have to experience homelessness, drug addiction or mental illness!

    • You are the voice of reasonable…! God bless you for caring and considering what might be done to assist…!

    • Gregory Hutt Gregory Hutt says:

Dont put them in the center of town! Way out at Rivers End. There they can work the land gather up livestock and live in peace. On second thought, the Alamo Compound.

  17. Jeran Isam Jeran Isam says:

Well this explains why they are in my store every morning now, creeping out my customers

  18. They missed the ones in Newhall off 13th street.

  19. Im sorry but i have seen people that are not homeless sit there and beg and rob, it doesnt matter if you have a home or not, we as working people that work our butts off for what we have get harrassed and messed with by someone them, i did meet one really nice homeless man, he was the sweetest, made sure to get him food and a jacket. Alot of them are on drugs and dont want to clean up their act, i know one of them attacked someone with a knife over off sand canyon. The drugs really mess with their heads.

  20. Dasy, the city has a homeless shelter and several private charities locally. Many do not want help, but when the rivers flood the local taxpayers are expected to rescue them.

  21. Where are the homeless people going?

  22. Lora Hill Lora Hill says:

Now to clean up by pavilions in Valencia because they are getting violent over here

  23. now maybe I can ride my bike along the trail from Lost Canyon to Whites Canyon.

  24. Yea right on get rid of the nasty scumbags

  25. There needs to be a sweep everywhere. There is a young girl now living by the wash on Wiley Cyn on the left as you head toward the gym. She needs help getting back to her family or just taken in somewhere if family is not an option because the street should not be.

  26. Dasy Carol Dasy Carol says:

You guys! My family owns a recycle center by the wash! Some homeless that are good, but deppressed with criminal records told me many times before, they would not go to the shelter because the ones that keep stealing, and doing some other stuff go to the shelter!
They should check who deserves the protection and who doesn’t. Now if there is any way to give them work please!! Let me know so I tell them… I saw them yesterday. I didn’t work today.

  27. The people that feel so bad about where they r going need to be educated on the entire situation before they think the city and sheriff’s r so cruel for cleaning the homeless out. I pay enough money to live here and feel safe and don’t have the safety with them using or restrooms at our pool to use drugs, take showers and swim in the pool. We work and pay to have these amenities. And to have to worry about our children being hurt or finding left over drugs in our community is very troubling. There was also a guy living in the wash that had pulled a gun on a worker in the wash while he was doing his job and on another man running on the trail. It turned out be a bbgun but what if it was one of our children he did this to and actually shot someone and caused harm. Think about that before u go defending these people who r being offered help on site and refusing. Let’s keep our city safe and clean.

  28. Tim Vest Tim Vest says:

I live next to the areas where this happened. I am so happy that the authorities finally did something. My kids play around here, we walk and exercise around here. The people living there are rude, they deal drugs ( I know this for a fact), they steal from our stores, they steal from our local residents. It’s about time.

  29. I think that many of these people might get shaken up enough by this to accept help and get off drugs (or on them in the case of mental illness).

  30. Żøė Marie Żøė Marie says:

Have a little grace for the homeless people or lower your damn housing prices out here and there won’t be so many homeless!

  31. Żøė Marie Żøė Marie says:

Leave them alone it’s where they live & sleep!!

  32. In the past, and I’m assuming this time, relief housing, food stamps, drug rehabilitation and financial assistance has been offered in exchange for relocation. In the past, More than 85 percent of these homeless turned down the offer in exchange for continuing their drug abuse. The majority of the homeless that are being evicted, are choosing drug use and homelessness as they live off of our citizens generous hearts. Glad this is happening.

    • Most the homeless are veterans. People don’t want to be addicted to drugs but it happens and it’s more likely to happen to those suffering from ptsd. They deserve our help.

    • That’s not true. That’s propaganda. Some are and help is there for them too. The riverbed isn’t the answer. Drugs are an addiction and can be cured. But the addictive gene repeats and repeats.

  33. Wow!!! So sad for the people. I wonder where they will sleep tonite???? Alan have you been hurt or bothered by homeless living near you? Your comment came across as cold & calloused

  34. So…where did the humans go ? Now that you’ve “cleaned up ” the wash…and removed anything they might use for survival…? Where are the displaced people sleeping to nite ?

    • So glad to know someone is on the same page as I am

    • They have been offered assistance, on the taxpayers dollar, and they don’t want it. And if they do, they do not want to follow the rules and get kicked out. Their choice.

    • Dasy Carol Dasy Carol says:

You guys! My family owns a recycle center by the wash! Some homeless that are good, but deppressed with criminal records told me many times before, they would not go to the shelter because the ones that keep stealing, and doing some other stuff go to the shelter!

    • It’s only a temporary fix they will be back. My agency works with homeless people including vets. The judgement of homelessness will continue in this community! Many people who are homeless are dually diagnosed (mental illness and drug addiction) one covers up the other. many times the MI is not even diagnosed. I have learned this white picket fence community will not change and just pray they themselves or family members do not face such experiences in life

    • I’m friendin you… as a resource for homelessness…I may know some people who have “needs”…

    • Gregory Hutt Gregory Hutt says:

If you care so much about where they will stay, invite them to stay with you. If you want them to work, allow them to be your live-in housekeeper, cook, gardener, etc.

    • Sherryan Lima says:

has anyone considered the fact that their property was confiscated/stolen from them! Because what I saw in the pics were tents and camping equipment. I truly don’t think these people want to be around any of you. Seems to me like they were just trying to live and now the city of Scv has taken their means for survival. Now we leave them no choice but to surface and come to your markets, your homes. This was a really stupid thing to do!

    • Kristina Joy Kristina Joy says:

Jail hopefully. Hopefully they sober up, come out, get jobs, and live! If they cant do that, eventually they will die. And id rather it not be in the wash by my home. My boyfriend did it, it’s a beautiful thing getting sober and living…

    • Gregory Hutt get a life dude. I’ve seen you comment on everything. You’re a sad old man that keeps saying the same things. Your level of ignorance is intolerable.

    • Gregory Hutt get a life dude. I’ve seen you comment on everything. You’re a sad old man that keeps saying the same things. Your level of ignorance is intolerable.

  35. Where the heck r those people going to sleep n live now? Did everyone there offer them a place to stay??????

    • Staci Soles Staci Soles says:

Since you are so concerned let them live with you. Most of the people in these areas are young adults “wash kids” as they are called. They thought they would be “cool” and leave home cause they THOUGHT they could live on their own. Reality hit…they need jobs to survive. Not going out robbing businesses and people. They shower at the apts behind Pavilions and leave not only their germs, but needles in the bathrooms where parents try and enjoy a day of swimming. The city of santa clarita and the sheriff’s dept are NOT responsible for giving these people anymore options. They NEED to do their job and keep our streets clean and safe!

    • And if they aren’t young they are older people that don’t want help. They have been offered help on taxpayers dollars. They don’t want it. If they do take it, they don’t abide by the rules and get kicked out.

    • Brown Julie Brown Julie says:

Yes maybe everyone who wants to help them, should open up their homes to them

    • Staci Soles you copied and paste your comment? Are you kidding me. Save you’re very ignorant words for your self lady. So far I’ve been laughing at you but now just shut up. You know them all so well don’t you? Please. Most of those drugs are from people with homes. You need a reality check. People like you are what keeps America down. Not those homeless. You’re simply stupid.

  36. Alan Duvo Alan Duvo says:

Drop them off on Jakes way in cc

  37. Dasy Carol Dasy Carol says:

I think it is good but I am concerned about those people!! Is there any way to help them please?????

  38. Dan Aird Dan Aird says:

    It Was About Time.

  39. Thank you all for your hard work… I just hope the homeless is in a safe place

  40. About damn time should never have been allowed to go on that long!!
