SCV News | Finish the Ride Event Works to Make Community Streets Safer
Finish the Ride is an event to create awareness about making the community safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and motor vehicles.
By participating, the event helps the “Streets Are For Everyone” organization raise awareness about hit and run crimes.
Finish The Ride Santa Clarita is a combination memorial ride for two traumatic injury survivors.
Santa Clarita resident and Parks Commissioner Kevin D. Korenthal was hit by a distracted driver Dec. 22, 2012, and was hospitalized for 30 days with broken bones, neck and back injuries, and a traumatic brain injury. Each year, he gathers with friends to celebrate his survival and recovery.
Korenthal is the founder of The Forged By Fire Foundation (www.forgedbyfirefoundation.org) a nonprofit dedicated to supporting those who have experienced traumatic injury or debilitating disease and seek a fuller recovery and more active lifestyle going forward.
Damian Kevitt is a 2013 hit and run collision survivor. Kevitt and his wife were riding their bikes near Griffith Park when a driver hit him and dragged him under the vehicle onto the freeway and fled the scene.
Kevitt received numerous severe injuries including the loss of his right leg below the knee. The public and media response to this hit and run collision created a groundswell of support for anti-hit and run advocacy.
Join them and hundreds of other riders, runners, walkers and rollers for Finish The Ride Santa Clarita on April 30 at Heritage Valencia Park.
