CONSTRUCTION CREWS MAKE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS ON STATE ROUTE 3 IN TRINITY COUNTY

REDDING –In this Caltrans News Flash, join District 2 Public Information Officer Becky Alexander for a look at the massive slip-out that occurred on State Route 3 in Trinity County. She’ll take you inside the barricades to show you the extensive work by Caltrans and its contractors as they work to repair and reopen this road.

More than 60,000 cubic yards, or nearly 5,000 dump trucks full of debris had to be removed from the roadway following the slip-out on March 14, 2016.  Crews are now backfilling the part of fallen highway. The $10 million emergency project also includes more drainage components to prevent any future water buildup.

There is an alternate route around the closure via Trinity Dam Blvd. and Slate Creek Road. It is open with the following restrictions:

• 4-wheel drive is recommended

• No Trailers

• Under one-way traffic control with a pilot car AT ALL TIMES

• Access is subject to change due to road and weather conditions and the need for continued improvements

• Priority given to emergency and service vehicles and local residents

An additional alternate route is available via Trinity Mountain Road/East Side Road between SR 299 near French Gulch and Trinity Center. Vehicles will travel on an unpaved surface and should proceed slowly and with caution.
