Around Town | Riders, Runners, Walkers, Rollers Invited to Finish the Ride April 30
|
Finish The Ride Santa Clarita is a combination memorial ride for two traumatic injury survivors. Santa Clarita resident and Parks Commissioner Kevin D. Korenthal was hit by a distracted driver Dec. 22, 2012, and was hospitalized for 30 days with broken bones, neck and back injuries, and a traumatic brain injury. Each year, he gathers with friends to celebrate his survival and recovery. Korenthal is the founder of The Forged By Fire Foundation (www.forgedbyfirefoundation.org) a nonprofit dedicated to supporting those who have experienced traumatic injury or debilitating disease and seek a fuller recovery and more active lifestyle going forward. Damian Kevitt is a 2013 hit and run collision survivor. Kevitt and his wife were riding their bikes near Griffith Park when a driver hit him and dragged him under the vehicle onto the freeway and fled the scene. Kevitt received numerous severe injuries including the loss of his right leg below the knee. The public and media response to this hit and run collision created a groundswell of support for anti-hit and run advocacy. Today Korenthal and Kevitt work together to end hit and run collisions and bring attention to the best practices for recovery from traumatic injury and disease. Join them and hundreds of other riders, runners, walkers and rollers for Finish The Ride Santa Clarita on April 30 at Heritage Valencia Park.
