Families Crowd Placerita Park for Nature Center Festival

Uploaded 05/14/2016

The Placerita Canyon Nature Center Associates’ annual Open House and Family Festival drew an overflow crowd to Placerita State Park Saturday.

Kids got to pan for “gold” and learned how to do all sorts of things by hand, from sawing logs to washing clothes. Docents gave them an up-close look at some of Placerita’s reptilian and avian residents and assisted them with a variety of hands-on activities.

Local organizations ranging from Sierra Pelona Rock Club and The Local Group (astronomy club) to SCOPE and the Sierra Club provided information and set up displays.

The event was hosted by the Nature Center Associates in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. The Placerita Canyon Nature Center is located east of the 14 Freeway at 19152 Placerita Canyon Road.
