New Clothing to Increase Safety for Highway Workers

Safety is Caltrans’ top priority, and when you’re managing more than 55,000 lane-miles of road often inches from traffic, what you wear on the job plays a key role in being seen and staying safe. Caltrans has recently obtained new clothing, including vests and jackets, for its road maintenance workers which is more visible than ever.

In this Caltrans News Flash, we join a work crew in Courtland, located south of Sacramento, who are attired in the new gear while tackling the myriad of tasks at which Caltrans employees excel. The new gear is retro-reflective, which means it reflects available light, and is brighter and more visible than older clothing under all weather conditions.
