A brush fire off Sierra Highway charred one acre before being extinguished by firefighters on Thursday. Disasters can happen at any time; today hundreds of schools prepared for an earthquake with the Great California Shakeout drill. The William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board unanimously approved a contract Wednesday night to begin the construction of Castaic High School. Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital will serve as a collection point for unwanted prescription medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday.
