“Ghost Band” is an altar modeled after the “ghost bikes” that are placed on the side of roads in honor of individual’s that have been killed while biking. “Ghost Band” takes the same concept and honors musicians that have passed away.
The artist Jeff Barber, or “SIX” got the idea from an art gallery and his daily commute to Santa Clarita from Port Hueneme in Ventura County.
“I drive through Oxnard every night and there is this ghost bike for this kid with candles and flowers” Barber said. “So I see that thing constantly and just before Fillmore one morning and I remember seeing this guitar painted white. I just thought it looked
cool aesthetically”.
The altar uses full sized instruments that are painted completely white just like ghost bikes. A drum set, bass, guitar, amp and microphone completed the portion of the piece. The instruments are arranged in a typical band performance type set-up. People were encouraged to write notes or remembrances to a musician that has passed away that they either knew personally, respected or admired.
