Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrates Official Open of Canyon Country OFL Center

The Opportunities for Learning Center in Canyon Country celebrated its official opening of its new center, which was moved to the new location to accommodate a growing enrollment.

On Friday, February 24th, Opportunities for Learning (OFL) celebrated the official opening of their Canyon County center with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Staff, students and the community supported the school by attending in strong numbers.

Principal Julie Johnson officially welcomed attendees before accepting certificates of recognition from the offices of several local dignitaries. Representatives from the offices of Congressman Steve Knight, State Senator Scott Wilk, State Assemblyman Dante Acosta, Los Angeles County Supervisor Katheryn Barger, Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce were on hand to present.

The Canyon Country center opened to accommodate staff who have been added in specialized fields for student support. Peggy Wilson, Enrollment and Outreach Specialist said, “About two years ago, it became apparent that we needed not only more space but updated space. More staff in specialized fields were added and space was getting tight with resource teachers, continuing enrollment and summer school.” She continued, “This space provides a larger learning environment as well as space for laptops, textbooks, smart-boards, and other educational tools that allow our students more access to technology and resources.”
