Caltrans News Flash: New Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge Girders

In this Caltrans News Flash, District 5 Public Information Officer Susana Cruz takes you behind the scenes at the XKT Engineering Plant in Vallejo, CA, where bridge parts called “girders” are currently being fabricated for the new Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on State Route 1 in Monterey County. This video provides an opportunity to see just how these large steel plate girders are made as Gary Mathison, President of XKT engineering and Caltrans Structural Representative Jason Wilcox explain the process. Once fabrication is complete, the girders will be trucked to Stockton, CA where they will be painted then transported to Pfeiffer Canyon and assembled on-site and launched across the 310-foot expanse. Public access for this new single-span steel girder bridge is scheduled for late September 2017.
