PENNIES FOR PATIENTS – Hey Sierra Vista, our FINAL turn in day for Penny Wars is TODAY, during brunch in the quad. Don’t forget that: pennies are NEGATIVE points and silver change/bills/checks/ and online donations are POSITIVE points. Checks should be made to the “Leukemia and Lymphoma Society” with the team name written on the check. The team that earns the most positive points per student gets a pizza party!!! Keep collecting that change!

THRILLING THURSDAY! – Come out to the quad TODAY at lunch for Thrilling Thursday! We will have relay races, music, games, and more! To play in our relay game, show up in a group of 3-4 people, or on your own to join another team. Finally, since it’s also Twin Thursday, come spin the spirit wheel for a chance to earn a prize if you’re matching with a friend. Come out and join us for all the fun at lunch!

CANYON ASB – Attention 8th graders that are applying for ASB at Canyon: please remember to turn in your completed application to Mrs. Terranova in room 1002, through TODAY. If you turn in the application on Friday, you will need to take it to the ASB window. Late applications will not be accepted.

MAKERSPACE FESTIVAL – This Saturday, College of the Canyons is hosting the 2018 Southern California MakerSpace Festival. STEM and STEAM activities, NASA, robot demonstrations, hands-on learning, career exploration, and more! For more information, CLICK HERE.

CAREERS IN SPACE – Are you interested in Space Exploration?  Do you want to learn more about the upcoming NASA Mission to Mars set to launch on May 5th? An engineer working on the Insight Mars Mission will be here from JPL to talk about his Career with the Insight and the Mission to Mars. Come hear about the interesting aspects of being a part of Space Exporation and other exciting job opportunities at JPL and NASA. The Career Talk will be next Tuesday May 1st at Lunch in the Library. You can eat your lunch in the library and seating is first come first served.

X WEEK – is coming April 30th Thru May 4th.  Please represent being drug free and being a positive member of Sierra Vista.  During X week DFY in SCV members will be holding an activity on Wednesday and Friday during Lunch.  Please come out to the quad to see us in action.  In order to kick off X week we are asking students to wear their DFY in SCV shirts and anything purple/green/white on Monday, May 1st.  We look forward to seeing everyone participating and representing being drug free.

SPIRIT WEEK CONTINUES – Hey Sierra Vista, today is Twin Thursday! ASB will go around during D and E periods and give candy to to everyone dressed like their friend! Tomorrow is Pajama Friday. Remember to wear your favorite pj’s!

STAFF VS. STUDENT SOFTBALL – Attention 8th Graders! TODAY and tomorrow, April 26th and 27th will be tryouts for our 4th annual Staff vs. Student Softball team. Tryouts will take place after school on the field by the long jump pit.  If you cannot attend both days please come see Mrs. Hatfield or Ms. Bregger.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES –  Today in clubs and activities we have the p.e club in the fitness center, video game club in room 101 after school, and thrilling Thursday at the quad

THE EIGHTH GRADE MAGIC MOUNTAIN TRIP is Wednesday, May 30th. Information packets and permission slips are now available at the ASB Window, and tickets are now on sale.  Ticket prices are $55 for regular admission, but only $20 if you own a current season pass. Your ticket includes a t-shirt, transportation, and admission to the park. The last day to purchase a ticket is Friday, May 4th, but don’t wait until the last day because the line will be extremely long. When purchasing a ticket, please have your ID card, and make sure you’re not on the library or demerit LOP list. Season pass holders must show their pass when they purchase their ticket.

TRAILBLAZERS OF THE WEEK – Congratulations Trailblazer Students of the Week, Aariel Abaincia and Roman Rodas.  Aariel is an amazing young lady and a terrific student. She is responsible, kind, and always has a smile on her face. Roman has made a real effort to improve his grades. He works hard in all his classes, but he still takes the time to be friendly and respectful.  We feel fortunate having them both on our team.

COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS – We have an exciting opportunity for our 8th graders entering high school this fall! The Career and College Readiness Department will be offering pathway courses this summer in Business, Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Careers and also Animal Sciences. Courses will run Mon-Fri from July 2nd-July 30th. Visit the counseling office for more details!
