Los Angeles County firefighters battled a 10-acre brush fire that broke out in the 20900 block of Villa Estrella in Newhall and scorched an apartment building Monday afternoon. As of 6:20 p.m., the ‘Railroad Fire’ is 50 percent contained with all forward progress stopped according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Road Closures include

  • Sierra Hwy SB is closed from Dockweiler to Newhall Avenue
  • All of Dockweiler and all of Valle de Oro

The American Red Cross and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs set up an evacuation center for displaced residents at Golden Valley High School. Residents still at the Terrace and Village apartments are being asked to shelter in place due to road closures.
