Schools | Fair Oaks Ranch Community School Celebrates Dr. Seuss Day with World Record Bid
|
Fair Oaks Ranch Community School appeared to be taken over by “Thing 1 and Thing 2,” striped hats, and whimsical rhymes on Friday as the school celebrated Read Across America Day–often referred to as Dr. Seuss Day, in honor of the famed late author’s birthday–with a bid to break the world record for “Most People Wearing a Dr. Seuss Costume”. According to Read Across America Day coordinator and Fair Oaks Ranch Community School sixth grade teacher Ken Newton, they have “tentatively” broken it, with over 1,000 students showing up to school with their best Dr. Seuss-themed dress. The day was also celebrated with local dignitaries and celebrities stopping by to read Dr. Seuss books to different classes. Newton says he hopes these students take away a love for reading that is coupled with a great memory of an exciting and fun day. (c) 2019 SCVTV
