Sierra Vista Life, 3-19-19

Veterinarian Talk- Do you have an interest in working with Animals? Have you thought about becoming a veterinarian? On Tuesday, March 19th during lunch we will have a special talk given by Dr. Rachel Sachar, a Los Angeles County Veterinarian.  She will share how she chose her profession, what fun things she gets to do in her job and the skills needed to work with animals. If you have an interest in working with Animals please join us. Please sign up on our SV Website. You may bring your lunch to the talk. Space is limited so sign up soon!


Plainsmen Progress Day- Today is Plainsmen Progress day. Since the third quarter ends this Friday, this is a great opportunity for you to get help from your teachers on missing assignments.


Talent Show- Our 2019 Talent Show is this Wednesday, March 20th, from 6-7pm. Sierra Vista students get in free with their ID card; no need to get a ticket beforehand. Come and see Sierra Vista’s talented performers and support some of your fellow plainsmen!


Scholastic Book- Our Scholastic Book Fair is next week at our SV Library. Here is a book talk about one of the books that you can buy at the fair:   (read one of the 9 book talks in my Fulleman upload folder) See you at the fair, because “Reading Rocks!!”


Librarian Visit- Attention all students.  Heroes are needed!! The Teen Librarian from the Canyon Country Public Library is visiting our SV Library for a demonstration of the popular tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. This will be on Thursday, March 21st during lunch.  The first 25 attendees will get a Free 20-sided die to take home with them! Free Snacks will also be provided. No ticket necessary. This is open for all grades. Join us for some heroic battles!


Canyon High School Jamboree- Today, 8th Graders will participate in the Canyon High School Jamboree. Students will be exploring College and Career Readiness Courses from the Canyon High School Pathways along with some of the electives offered at Canyon High School.  Students will be visiting the Jamboree through their elective classes. Students are encouraged to explore many different programs and classes to consider for their future careers and interests. Presenters include: Auto, Computer Science, ASB, Photo, Movie Making,  Culinary, Multimedia Design, Digital Art, Yearbook, Dental, Medical and Animal Science, Fire Science, Law, French, and Journalism. Students who take CCR classes are better prepared for their major upon entering college and have attained valuable job skills that help them be prepared to enter the workforce with experience. High School Graduates who complete a pathway in high school are awarded with the honor as “Graduates of Distinction” within the Hart School District.


7th Grade Elective Requests- 7th graders will be making their elective requests for next school year on Tuesday,  through your current elective classes with Mrs. Knolls in the library. Even if you are planning on applying for a year long elective all students in 7th grade still need to put in their requests for electives for next year.  Ask your friends about their current electives to get an idea about what to choose as a preference for next year.


Learning Style Inventory- A reminder for students who need to complete their Learning Style Inventory in Naviance: If Ms. Roth gave you a blue sheet, please make sure to return it to Ms. Roth by Friday 3/22. Thank you!


Clubs and Activities- Today in Clubs and Activities we have the harry potter DIY club, Makerspace Tuesday in the library, a guest speaker in room 802, and plainsmen Progress day after school.
