SCV Education Foundation Donates Books to Placerita Junior High Students

The SCV Education Foundation gave new books away to Placerita Junior High School students through a new program called “Page Turners”. This program was developed to provide an opportunity for students to start or add to their home library.

The book giveaway was held at Placerita Junior High School on Thursday, March 28th. Students were provided a “golden ticket” inviting them to the event. They had the opportunity to select books such as junior high all-time favorites, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series, the “Harry Potter” collection, and the “I Funny” assortment. In all, over 100 different book titles were available to choose from.

This program was offered due to generous grants provided by the City of Santa Clarita and Lockheed Martin AERO CARES. In total, $7,500 in books have been purchased and were given to students at Placerita, La Mesa and Sierra Vista Junior High Schools. “By providing books to students, we hope to increase literacy and foster a lifetime love of reading”, says Jackie Hartmann, Executive Director of the Foundation.

The SCV Education Foundation was founded in 1995 to foster relationships between businesses, schools, educators, and students; and to promote appreciation for public school education in the Santa Clarita Valley. Other annual programs include Teacher Innovation Grants, Teacher Tribute, Read with Me, Bag of Books and scholarships to graduating high school students.
