Santa Clarita resident Jamie Alamillo and his family were told six years ago that he had stage three Multiple Myeloma and that he would likely never walk again. Now, he’s raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and planning to cycle 540 miles from Santa Clarita to Lake Tahoe.

In Lake Tahoe, he will then complete the century ride, America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, totaling 540 miles cycled between May 23 and June 2, 2019 with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT) program.

As the world’s largest non-profit health organization dedicated to finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for all blood cancer patients, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society relies on its flagship fundraising campaigns to generate funds for its mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Since its inception, Team In Training has raised more than $1 billion for research and patient support, trained more than 650,000 people and helped LLS invest more than $1.3 billion to help advance breakthrough cancer treatments. Today’s Team In Training provides teammates a unique opportunity to experience personal discovery and mastery through training and community while helping to create a world without blood cancer.

The cycle ride begins on May 23, 2019. Jamie will arrive in Lake Tahoe on May 30, 2019 and take a 2-day rest before completing America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride with over 850 Team In Training athletes. Team In Training participants must raise a minimum of $1,600 for LLS and are supported with the Sixcycle training app, group trainings, fundraising resources, and a cycling jersey.

In 2013 Jamie was diagnosed with stage three Multiple Myeloma and told he may never walk again. The cancer had broken his back in two places and entered his spine. Doctors were able to extract all lesions and repair part of Jamie’s back. He regained his ability to walk, but it was only one step on his path to recovery.

Jamie went through 10 rounds of radiation, 27 rounds of chemotherapy, and a stem cell procedure to fight his cancer. Since his diagnosis, he has completed 11 half marathons, 3 marathons, 3 century rides, 1 triathlon, and recently completed an Ironman distance duathlon.

Jamie has personally raised over $25,000 for LLS and his goal for the cycle ride is to raise an additional $6,000. He shared, “I feel I need to do more as there is no known cure for my disease… It matters for the newly diagnosed and their families looking for options and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s continued fight to find a cure.”
