Magic Mountain: 8th graders: don’t forget to purchase your Magic Mountain ticket by May 3rd. Students purchasing a ticket will receive 1 meal voucher to purchase food within the park! You can purchase tickets before school to avoid the lines.

Freshmen Meeting: If you enjoy running, please come to our incoming Freshman Meeting at Canyon’s Library on May 1st at 6:00pm. Summer packets, the summer schedule, fall schedule and Mammoth info will be discussed at the meeting.

Track and Field Meet: Do you think that you’re faster than the students at Arroyo Seco? Can you jump farther than the kids at Rio Norte? Then this is the event for you! This year’s annual Hart District Track and Field meet will be held on Thursday, May 16th. If you’re interested in competing in this fun day at COC, Mr. Drabinski is having an informational meeting on Tuesday during lunch in room 1002. The events that students can participate in are the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 meter runs, 4 by 100, 4 by 400 meter relay, high jump, long jump and shot put. See you on Monday!

Safety Town Camps: If you’re interested in volunteering and earning some community service hours over summer, volunteer for Safety Town camps. Teens work with teachers and community safety professionals to assist in the teaching of safety and injury prevention skills to children ages 4 through 6. You’ll be able to do teach them through song, arts/crafts, role-play, and other activities. More info and the application are available at www.safetytownscv.com.

Out of the Darkness: On Saturday, May 18th, College of the Canyons is hosting “Out of the Darkness,” which is a walk to raise awareness for mental health in the SCV. To register, go to www.afsp.org/santaclarita

GO Jazz: On May 3rd at 7pm, GO Jazz is going “On the Road” to Canyon High School for their Spring Concert! They will join the talented Canyon HS Jazz Bands for a great night of jazz. The concert will take place in the beautiful new Canyon HS Theater. Tickets are $10 for General Admission, $5 for Seniors, and students are free! Hope to see you there!

Softball: Major league baseball is in full swing. The Dodgers are in first place so we’re making May’s intramural sport: softball. If you go on the Sierra Vista website under news and announcements, you can find the link to sign-up. You can form a team or sign-up as a free agent. If you are forming a team, please have all members of the team sign-up. Teams can consist of 8-12 students. At the end of the month, the students will form an all star team and face the teachers in the annual Staff vs Students softball game in front of the entire school. Clubs and Activities: Today in Clubs and Activities, we have the Chess and Games club in room 301 and the Jazz Band Rehearsal after school from 2:30-3:30pm
