Firework Safety Press Conference Educates Residents on Fireworks Safety

Dignitaries, first responders, law enforcement, and community members gathered at Fire Station 126 in Valencia on Wednesday, June 26 for the Fireworks Safety Press Conference, which educated residents about fireworks safety and demonstrated the risk posed when using fireworks without professional knowledge or background on fireworks usage.

The press conference is ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, a time when many residents and Americans typically use fireworks and other such pyrotechnics.

The press conference included speeches and demonstrations by Santa Clarita City Council members along with Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, County Fire Chief Daryl Osby, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Robert Lewis and the Grossman Burn Center.

A professional pyrotechnic company safely demonstrated the risk involved when setting off fireworks, from sparklers to larger explosives, by setting regular clothes on fire with a sparkler and using a firework to explode a phone book and two watermelons.

Fire Station 126 is located at 26320 Citrus Street, Valencia 91355.
