Emergency and elected officials staged a series of explosions at a press conference earlier this afternoon to highlight the dangers of illegal fireworks. Representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the City of Santa Clarita Government warned residents of an increased law enforcement presence on the Fourth of July. Fines for those caught in possession of fireworks could exceed $500-600, they said. The Grossman Burn Centers’ medical director stressed the risks of small explosive devices and focused on the seriousness of burns and other injuries, including those to children.
