College of the Canyons looks to extend its four-game win streak as Moorpark College comes to town for a special Thursday night edition of Cougars football. Thursday’s Week 6 contest is the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern League opener. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

All Cougars home games will be live streamed to fans through a broadcast partnership with SoCalCollegeSports.com. Home games will also be replayed on SCVTV Channel 20 and SCVTV.com.

In addition, this week all SCV youth football & cheer teams — Santa Clarita Cowboys, Grizzlies, Spartans, Vikings, Warriors, Wildcats and other parks and recreation programs etc. — were invited to attend Thursday’s game free of charge (with jersey/uniform).

Canyons (4-1), the defending Northern League champions, has rattled off four straight victories after suffering a Week 1 loss to Saddleback College. Most recently, COC recorded a 35-24 week five road victory over host Golden West College.

COC sophomore quarterback Armani Edden finished the game 17-of-31 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Edden also scored two rushing touchdowns and added 16 yards on the ground. Cougars wide receivers Emari Smith and Romello Cook both caught touchdown passes, while sophomore running back Cayden Dunn led the backfield with 16 carries for 125 yards and a rushing score. On the defensive side, linebacker Jonathan Thomas recorded seven tackles to go with a sack. And cornerback Chayce Edwards-Morgan had seven tackles and an interception.

Moorpark (1-4) has dropped back-to-back contests after a 34-7 week three victory over Glendale College. The Raiders lost 48-28 at home to El Camino College in week five. Moorpark quarterback Isaiah Johnson tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the loss, while running back Edyon Batta led with 46 rushing yards on just six carries.

The Cougars are currently tied for the No. 4 spot in the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association poll. Canyons is also No. 7 in the statewide head coaches poll, as compiled by the J-C Athletic Bureau.

The Raiders are currently unranked.

Canyons and Moorpark last met during week six of the 2018 season, with the Cougars posting a 36-3 road victory.

COC is 21-4 all time vs. Moorpark. The Raiders’ last victory over the Cougars came in 2015.

General admission tickets to all Cougars football games are $10. Kids under 10 and seniors over 60 are $5.
