Strides for Wellness Challenge: The Santa Clarita Track Club is offering an exciting new opportunity to 50 Hart District students and 10 staff in “The Strides for Wellness Challenge” beginning January 20th. The primary goal of this challenge is to make participants aware of the services offered by our Wellness Center. It will incorporate a five-week physical fitness and wellness program showing the importance of nutrition; physical activity; rest; and stress reduction to balance social emotional health. The “Strides for Wellness Challenge” is a short term, team-driven challenge designed to get kids moving. There are significant health benefits of even moderate physical exercise (specifically walking and running, but also cycling, skateboarding, dancing, snowboarding, and circuit training) . The challenge pairs the ‘Endomondo’ fitness app with an adapted version of the Jeff Galloway run-walk-run training method. During the five-week challenge from January 20th to February 23rd 2020, participants will complete a basic physical fitness program, accomplishing light aerobic activity goals at a minimum of 3 times per week for 45-60 minutes while gaining awareness of social-emotional health topics using a ‘Wellness Passport’ provided by Mrs. Flaherty in room 615. As an added incentive, the top ten student participants completing the challenge will receive a $50 certificate from Runner’s Lane specialty shoe store. 50 Hart District student participants receive free entry in the SCTC’s 10th annual Mardi Gras Madness 5K Run / Walk set for February 23rd , 2020, at the Valencia Town Center, which draws more than 1,000 attendees annually, and has sold out every year since 2012.
