Spelling Bee Winners: The English Department would like to congratulate the following students for their outstanding performance in the SV School Wide Spelling Bee last week. Champion Speller, who will advance to the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in March, is Chadwick Maybin. While 1st Runner Up is Janice Johnson and 2nd is Andrew Zah. All THREE of these students are 7th graders and are on the SPURS TEAM! Congratulations Spellers! Team Teacher Game Today: On January 29th, ASB is doing a game with one of your favorite team teachers. Come to the outdoor stage at lunch to cheer on your team to help your team earn spirit points. Students, if you were chosen to participate by your teacher, please don’t forget to come the outdoor stage at the beginning of lunch! Spirit Week: Hello Plainsmen this week is spirit week. Today is Black out day so hopefully you wore black, Tomorrow is Tie Dye themed, and Friday we are having Jersey day in the spirit of the superbowl. Wearing anything having to do with each spirit day will help your team get spirit points and you will receive candy during your C and D period classes. The team with the most students wearing black on Wednesday earn spirit points! Egg Race Friday: Come to the Outdoor Stage at lunch this Friday to participate in an egg race with your friends! The winner gets candy. Football Toss Friday: Come to the quad on Friday, January 31st to participate in the football toss and get a piece of candy! Whimbys Donations: Whimbys is a thrift store in the shopping center located next to TJ Maxx. Next time you’re cleaning out your closet, think of Whimbys. They will take any gently used items or clothing donations and if you say “Credit to SV school” they will give a percentage of money back to SV for your donation. Thank you for your support to SV. Academy of the Canyons: Academy of the Canyons (AOC) is beginning its application season for 2020-21 this month. There are two mandatory information sessions for 8th graders to choose from. Either Wednesday, January 29th at Canyon HS or Thursday, Jan 30th at Saugus HS both from 6:30-8:30 PM. Please see Mrs. Saunders in the counseling office for more details. Universal Studios Grad Bash: 8th graders, don’t forget that this year’s end of the year field trip will be to Universal Studios Grad Bash on Friday, May 22nd! Transportation and admission only costs $85, and this special night includes DJs, exclusive park access for grad night students ONLY, and more. You can still purchase your ticket at the ASB window through April 3rd, but you won’t want to wait since the line to purchase gets REALLY long during the last week of ticket sales. Honor Society Application: The Spring Honor Society application for both 7th and 8th grade is available now on the SV website on the Honor Society page. You need your quarter 1 and quarter 2 final grades, and you must use your student gmail to complete the online application. The deadline to submit applications is February 7. See Mrs. Marsh in room 106 if you need help filling it out! Majestic Students of the Month: The Majestic Mountaineers would like to congratulate our Students of the Month: Jared Morales is hard-working, responsible, and a respectful individual. Jenna Libretti, is an outstanding student who deserves recognition Andrew Luna always cares about his work and works to make it the best every day. That’s what makes him a great student! Gunner Evans always asks perceptive questions in science and always has a positive attitude. He sticks to an activity, even if it seems challenging and hard at first. Hyrum Stevenson is an excellent student and a great classmate. He can work independently and is always on top of his work. He is very polite and respectful. Ruby Torres is an amazing student and a great artist! Ryleen Agustin is an outstanding young lady and student. She is a true pleasure to have on the team! And Luis Zavala embodies the SV CARES characteristic by ensuring the well being of every student in history class by always holding the door and greeting his fellow peers as they enter class each day. Sierra Vista Cup: Returning this February is our annual soccer lunchtime tournament the Sierra Vista Cup. We are having an informational meeting / signups this Wednesday during brunch in room 1002. The tournament is 6 on 6. You can have up to 8 people on a team. If you don’t have a team but want to play you can sign-up as a free agent. If you have any questions see Mr Drabinski.
