Sierra Vista Life, 02-3-20

Brought to you by Sierra Vista Life, the digital journalism class at Sierra Vista Junior High School in Canyon Country, CA.

Singing “Val-O-Grams”: Do you want to tell your BFF how much you love them? Surprise your crush? Embarrass your friend? Buy a Val-O-Gram! From now until February 11, the choir will be selling these singing telegrams around campus. For just $5, you’ll get a personalized message, creative Valentine’s Day song, and adorable teddy bear. Is your BFF at a different school? Not to worry! You can purchase a Virtual Val-O-Gram for anyone who isn’t a Sierra Vista student. For just $3, we’ll record a video of our awesome performance and send it on Valentine’s Day! Just find a student wearing a giant heart necklace for more details.

Selling of Non-School Fundraiser Items: Attention students: please note that the selling of non-school fundraiser items on our campus is PROHIBITED. This includes the selling of food items, such as Girl Scout cookies, snacks, candy, etc., as well as other items. All items sold on a school campus must be regulated for liability reasons. Please note, that if you are selling non-school fundraiser items on our campus, that they may be confiscated. Thanks for understanding.

Free ID Holders: Would you like a free holder for your student ID card so it’s easier to find and have out every morning? If so, come out to the outdoor stage on Thursday, February 6th, at brunch, to receive a free College of the Canyons lanyard and a kindness note from ASB. Then, give that kindness note to another student so we can spread some more kindness at Sierra Vista. ASB hopes to see you there!

Library Cat Naming: Attention all students. Did you know that libraries have encouraged cats to live in them since the early Egyptians? Centuries ago, they were used to eliminate rodents who could damage the scrolls. Today, they are kept as cute and cuddly library mascots in over 200 public libraries in the United States. Our Sierra Vista now has a virtual library cat on our newly decorated front doors. We’d like the students to name this cat. Please go to the SV Library’s home page to submit your name suggestions by Monday, February 10th. The best ones will go on a ballot for all students to place their vote!

Universal Studios Grad Bash: 8th graders, don’t forget that this year’s end of the year field trip will be to Universal Studios Grad Bash on Friday, May 22nd! Transportation and admission only costs $85, and this special night includes DJs, exclusive park access for grad night students ONLY, and more. You can still purchase your ticket at the ASB window through April 3rd, but you won’t want to wait since the line to purchase gets REALLY long during the last week of ticket sales. Please see Mrs. Terranova in room 621 if you have any questions.

Spring HONOR SOCIETY: The Spring HONOR SOCIETY application for both 7th & 8th grade is available NOW on the SV website on the Honor Society page. You need your Q1 & Q2 FINAL grades, and you MUST use your student gmail to complete the ONLINE application. The deadline to submit applications is February 7th. See Mrs. Marsh in room #106 if you need help filling it out!

School-Wide Kahoot Game: Come to the MPR at lunch on Wednesday, February 5th, to do a Kahoot about Sierra Vista! We will have a Chromebook for people who don’t have a phone, so everyone can play! Good luck!

Lost and Found Items: On Wednesday, February 5th, ASB would like to invite you to come to the outdoor stage to find your lost items.

National African American History Month: February is National African American Month! Did you know that John Mercer Langston was the first black man to become a lawyer when he passed the bar in Ohio in 1854? Also in 1855 Mr. Langston became one of the first African Americans ever elected to public office in America.

Clubs and Activities: Today in Clubs and Activities, we have the Model Builders Club in room 501, Karaoke Club in room 607, and Chess and Games Club in room 301.
