L.A. County Coronavirus Update 3/23/2020

County officials provide updates on COVID-19 cases, as well as plans for public safety and medical services. They stress the importance of staying home and practicing social distancing when out for essentials.

Participants:

Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Chair, Fifth District

Sheriff Alex Villanueva, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

Councilmember David Ryu, City of Los Angeles

Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby, L.A. County Fire Department

Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director, Public Health

Clayton Kazan, Medical Director, L.A. County Fire Department

Sheriff Villanueva: As I speak, #LASD is delivering a shipment of a quarter of a million #N95masks to the medical supply hub for distribution to all hospitals in the @CountyofLA. We transferred another 125K masks to @LAPDHQ  and an additional amount to local PDs, as first responders.#COVID19

UPDATE: The LA County Department of Public Health has confirmed two new deaths and 128 new cases of COVID-19. One individual was older than 65 with underlying health conditions from Glendale, and the other individual between 30-50, from a location that is still under investigation. Because there are positive cases across the entire County, the public should not think one location is safer than the other. To date, Public Health has identified 536 cases across all areas of LA County, including seven deaths.
