Santa Clarita, CA  – April 13, 2020  During this time of social distancing many churches, such as Valencia Christian Center (VCC),  have worked hard towards keeping their members engaged and connected while remaining responsible and health order compliant. A normal Resurrection Sunday for VCC is comprised of colorful Easter hats, children gathered to recite scriptures, a fellowship brunch and a rousing performance from the church choir. Most of those things could no longer be presented.

However VCC’s Praise and Worship Leader, Theresa Bailey came up with an idea.  “It’s so important during this time to find a way to stay connected to one another, says Theresa Jones.  “Congregations are not allowed to meet right now so we have to be creative in our worship services. Having the praise team sing via video was a great way to keep the music ministry connected and involved, while staying safe at home.”

Senior Pastor Dr. Swanzi Saunders adds “During this time of COVID-19 challenge, the church has the opportunity to extend outreach beyond the walls of the sanctuary in ways that positively impact the whole person – body, soul and spirit.  Physically, we become the hands and feet of Jesus Christ as we help to meet the practical needs around us, providing needed resources such as food and supplies.  Mentally and emotionally, we express love and compassion amid angst, uncertainty, fear, and worry by focusing on trust and confidence in a risen Savior who walks with us through life’s toughest moments and provides hope toward a triumphant outcome.  Spiritually, we encourage a greater connection with our Creator by increasing communication with Him through prayer and Bible studies.  We have an opportunity for greater reflection on blessings and prior victories in our lives.  And paying it forward by reaching out to someone else for fellowship and encouragement does wonders for the human spirit as well.”
