California State Parks | Chinese New Year Celebration: Lion Dance & Lantern Craft
|
Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park welcomes you into the “Temple of the Forest Beneath the Clouds” as he introduces Chinese New Year traditions. The temple is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California. This Taoist temple is still a place of worship and a fascinating look into the role played by Chinese immigrants in early California history. The temple was built in 1874 as a replacement for another that had burned. This program will begin with the colorful Lion Dance, and share New Year’s memories in China. Then we demonstrate the traditional red lantern craft, and talk about the Chinese zodiac. (c) SCVTV 2021
