Sulphur Springs USD | Fair Oaks Ranch Community School Unveils New Inclusive, National Demonstration Playgrounds
|
Sulphur Springs Union School District unveiled their two new, all-inclusive playgrounds Tuesday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Fair Oaks Ranch Community School. “The playgrounds incorporate the Principles of Inclusive Playground Design: cognitive, physical, social/emotional, sensory and communication,” said SSUSD Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi. “They are built and designed to allow full access for all children, no matter what their ability levels are. The playgrounds are designed with sensory-rich activities that focus on supporting the whole child.” These are the third and fourth inclusive playgrounds within SSUSD — the first was unveiled at Valley View Community School in 2017 and the second was unveiled at Sulphur Springs Elementary in 2019. “It has a lot of great features but the best thing about this is that it’ll be a lot of fun for you!” said Ken Chase, SSUSD Board of Trustees president, to the students of Fair Oaks Ranch Community School during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “It’s not just another playground, this is an inclusive playground which means that it’s been designed for kids of all abilities,” said Tim Hollinger, president of Sun Country Systems. “The goal here is not to leave a kid out because they can’t walk well or have some type of disability.” For more information about Fair Oaks Ranch Community School, visit here.
