Castaic Middle School unlocked a piece of the past with a 25-year-old time capsule at a ceremony Friday afternoon.

The time capsule was dedicated in 1996 but was not buried until 1999. The capsule was held in a bench dedicated to Principal Beverly Silsbee, who was employed at the school from 1986 to 2000.

In addition to seeing the contents of the 1996 capsule, students recreated a new capsule that will be opened in 2046 for the school’s 50th anniversary.

The 1996 version held a degraded Nike sneaker, a Casio watch, student ID cards and more. The updated capsule will hold Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour bracelets, Converse shoes and Taki’s chips along with other items.
