More from This Week’s Guest Lineup

Kicking off this week’s episode, co-hosts Dave Caldwell and Carrie Lujan share details of upcoming and exciting community events coming to Santa Clarita, including Dig Deep Theatre’s Dig Deep 5K and the city of Santa Clarita Business for Artists Conference 2025. The 5K will be held Oct. 5 at West Creek Park, while the free Artists Conference will take place Oct. 4 at the Canyon Country Community Center.

It’s time to get your ducks in a row for the annual and highly-entertaining Samuel Dixon Family Health Center’s annual Duck Dash. We chat with Philip Solomon, Samuel Dixon’s chief executive officer, about the cuts to funding that will impact the array of services the Center offers the community. We also sit with Angela Sanchez, branch manager for Logix Federal Credit Union’s Golden Valley location, regarding the bank’s commitment to supporting local nonprofits.

We then chat with Corey Allaway, program specialist for the city of Santa Clarita, who shares vital information about the return of Parenting for Prevention, a program that brings valuable resources to parents, caregivers and students on drug and alcohol prevention, online safety and how to live a healthy lifestyle. To enhance outreach, the program also encompasses a bilingual podcast, in-person parent meetings and monthly social media posts titled, “Thoughtful Third Thursdays.”

Following Parenting for Prevention, we sit with John Turner, principal of Placerita Junior High School, who talks about the benefits of having a dual language immersion program. Turner is joined by Jose M. Lopez, a dual immersion teacher at Placerita. Lopez shares his heartfelt journey growing up as a bilingual student who now teaches biliteracy.

Next up, we talk to Naomi Young, president of the Santa Clarita Artists Association, and Caroline Law, general manager of Brewery Draconum, who give us a fun preview of the inaugural Old Town Newhall Fine Art Festival. The family-friendly, two-day event will shut down Main Street in Old Town Newhall on Oct. 11- 12 and will give attendees a unique opportunity to enjoy and purchase works from amazing local artists, while taking advantage of the surrounding shops, tasting rooms, theaters and incredible restaurants.

We then are joined by R.J. Kelly, vice president of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 355 and Juan Blanco, president of Coffee 4 Vets, who invite the community to, “Commitment to Freedom,” a dinner fundraiser honoring the 250th Anniversary of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, on Oct. 4. The cost is $100 per ticket. Proceeds from the event will benefit, “Veterans Relief Fund.”

Finally, hear about all the exciting construction updates on The Rink Sports Pavilion on a brand new episode, “This Week in Santa Clarita.” Once complete, the 12,000-square-foot facility will become a community hub for a wide range of recreational opportunities.
