In the mood for an amazing concert, while giving back to two worthy causes? The Painted Turtle’s annual Harvest Moon Gathering benefit concert is slated for Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at noon.

The star-studded lineup includes Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts, Beck, and special guest Lana Del Rey.

Founded by legendary actor and humanitarian Paul Newman, The Painted Turtle provides a fun and safe camp experience where children with serious medical conditions can just be kids.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the organization’s programs and resources, as well as The Bridge School, which empowers kids with physical and speech disabilities to learn, connect and thrive. For more information, head on over to https://www.harvestmoongathering.com/.

We then chat with Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra who is tuning up for a brand new season and conductor! J.R. Hills, board president, and Alex Arellano, symphony conductor, talk about the upcoming season’s theme, which is centered around the musical roots of its musicians and the Santa Clarita Valley community. Arellano shares his personal journey with music and what he hopes to bring to the orchestra this season.

Up next, we sit with Katherine Nestved, arts coordinator for the city of Santa Clarita, as she previews the exciting lineup for this year’s Artober! The monthlong celebration will include 2025 Sidewalk Poetry Dedication, a brand new augmented app Walk of the Western Stars and everyone’s favorite cult classic, “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Following Nestved, we hear from Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons about what’s in store this year for upcoming performances. Jeff Gregor, vice-president of workforce & economic advancement at College of the Canyons, discusses how the PAC offers the community not just family-friendly entertainment. But it also provides world-class productions that are affordable and more importantly, local.

How’s your poker face? Because it’s time to ante up for a good cause! Finally Family Homes, which provides resources and programs for youth ages 18 to 26 who are at risk of homelessness or aging out of foster care, is hosting its third annual Finally Family Homes Poker Tournament. Christina Dronen, founder & executive director, and Jill Friedman, board president, go all-in when previewing the organization’s premier fundraiser. The fun event will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Oasis Resource Center in Newhall. The high-energy evening will include tournament play, dinner, drinks and a silent auction. Players of all skill levels are welcome!

We then get introduced to Mermista, the sweetest and most lovable German Shepherd/Labrador mix, from the Castaic Animal Care Center! Mermista, who’s approximately eight months old, was turned in as a stray. Paul Martinsen, longtime volunteer, said Mermista is good with other dogs, has basic command of sit and giving you his paw, walks well on a leash and has a bundle of energy when playing outside. He takes treats very gently and would be the perfect addition to an active family.

Finally, the widely-popular Teen Fan Fest returns to the delight of SCV youth. Hear all about it on a new episode of, “This Week in Santa Clarita.”
