SCVTV's Community Corner | Find Out How ‘Building Thinking Classrooms’ is Boosting Test Scores, Student Engagement at Canyon High School
|
|
“Building Thinking Classrooms” is a revolutionary shift in the traditional way students learn. The framework was created by Peter Liljedahl and schools such as Canyon High School have seen a boost in math scores and student engagement since the program was first implemented. Victoria Robinson, Canyon High School’s math department chair, and Canyon High Principal Shellie Holcombe, take us on a deep dive as to how the program works. Teachers present a problem and students, who are randomly assigned to a group, solve the problem together on whiteboards. This new approach to learning is designed to increase critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while strengthening student participation and connection.
