The Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue Team is a nonprofit organization made up of highly-skilled and dedicated volunteers whose mission is locating and assisting people who are either lost in rugged terrain or in need of a swift-water rescue. We take a deep dive with Justin Miyahira, assistant team leader, and rescuer Michael Kaericher, as they share insight of high risk situations and the dangers that come with the job. But it’s not always people they rescue. Just recently, Miyahira and Kaericher were on a routine training session in a remote canyon when their unit came upon a group of lost dogs. The dogs were later reunited with their owner. SCV Search and Rescue works in association with the Santa Clarita Valley but the group is completely unfunded and rely on the generosity of donors. Miyahira noted the group’s “newest” vehicle is 20 years old and highlighted the urgent need for donations. If you’d like to donate to the Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue Team, or for more information on SCVSAR, head on over to https://scvrescue.org/. Want to see more from SCVTV’s Community Corner?
