SCVTV is looking for a Production Assistant intern to assist with producing community access and original shows, Public Service Announcements for nonprofits; publish videos to the scvtv.com website and the PEG channel. SCVTV interns must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Intern must have a positive attitude with a willingness to be self-starting and motivated.

Duties:

The responsibilities of a production assistant at SCVTV include, but are not limited to:

  • Finding and positing government, nonprofit, and local video content to the website and channel.
  • Assisting staff with TV shows and productions
  • Operate equipment (Cameras, broadcasting tools, etc) during studio and field productions
  • Assisting staff with coverage of local events
  • Monitoring social media for content
  • Create TV show segments
  • Maintain awareness of / monitor social media for local and national issues/events

Qualifications:

  • Must have 2 years of experience in TV production or journalism
  • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud products
  • Experience with WordPress
  • Experience in videography, lighting, nonlinear video editing, set design, studio/field production
  • Flexible schedule preferred, Must be able to commit to at least two 4-hour shifts per week MINIMUM for the duration of the semester. 
  • Efficient in problem-solving
  • Experience in writing for broadcast
  • Excellent judgment and ethics

At SCVTV we define the job of a community media center in many ways. This includes creating our original programming that highlights local culture and civic affairs, facilitating educational training and providing industry connections to students and interns, and using our connections and channels of broadcast to be a platform for community groups and members to come together and interface. The SCVTV Community Media Center is a space where the convergence of creatives, historians, educators, students, nonprofits, media professionals, and businesses collaborate to create high-quality, localized tv and web programming for the Santa Clarita Valley.

For more than 25 years, SCVTV’s mission has been to operate the City of Santa Clarita’s Public, Educational, Governmental Access (PEG) cable channels (Spectrum 20 & AT&T 99) and Community Media Center under contract with the Santa Clarita Public Television Authority; to provide its platform and media services through community access and original programming opportunities that highlight local arts and culture (Finding Art), musicians (Soundcheck), history (SCV in the Movies, Legacy, documentaries), and a weekly magazine interview show (SCVTV’s Community Corner) about education, government, nonprofits and civic affairs.

SCVTV is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and we are the only television station based in Santa Clarita, exclusively covering the area. We take that responsibility into consideration with all of our operations.

  • creating social media campaigns
  • designing graphics
  • photographing, filming, and editing media for publishing
  • compiling social media metrics and analytics

– Must have some experience in social media, communications, TV production or journalism experience is a plus
– Must have an interest in and familiarity with the local community.
– Preferred coursework in History, Graphic Design, Fine Art, Photography, Video Production, English
– Must be able to commit to at least two 4-hour shifts per week MINIMUM for the duration of the semester.

SCVTV interns must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-stress, dynamic environment. Interns must have a positive attitude with a willingness to be self-starting and motivated.

The responsibilities of interns at SCVTV include, but are not limited to:

  • Catalog historical documents and media
  • Compile research and interviews for historical documents and media
  • Write thorough descriptions of historical documents and media for publication online
  • Scan & digitize historical media for online archiving
