Supervisors Approve Nov. 3 Advisory Vote for Westside SCV Residents
LOS ANGELES COUNTY To provide the residents of Sunset Pointe, Southern Oaks, Stevenson Ranch, Westridge, Tesoro, Castaic, and Val Verde a voice in the future of their communities, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Antonovich to place an advisory vote on the governance structure of the unincorporated areas of Santa Clarita Valley on the November 3, 2009 ballot.
"With the vital information necessary to make informed choices with regard to the future of their communities, this advisory vote will give our residents in unincorporated communities an opportunity to be heard," said Antonovich.
The costs and benefits of the options will be evaluated in public forums and community meetings between August and November, 2009.
An initial feasibility study, annexation feasibility analysis and a comparison of alternatives for a change in governance structure will be made available for public review and discussed in public forums.
The three major alternatives for governance are:
1. Remain as official communities in unincorporated Los Angeles County
2. Incorporate into a new separate city
3. Negotiate an annexation into the City of Santa Clarita
