Chamber to Host First-Ever State of the County Luncheon
The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Castaic Chamber will host a first-ever State of Los Angeles County Luncheon on May 27, 2009. Only one other city in the greater Los Angeles region has ever hosted such a luncheon where a standing County Supervisor presented on the current state of the county. Santa Clarita is fortunate to have its county Supervisor, Michael D. Antonovich, as the keynote speaker for the May 27 event.
Supervisor Antonovich serves two million residents in the Fifth Supervisorial District, and he has done so since 1980. Antonovich, a native of Los Angeles, began his political career in 1969 when he was elected to the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees. He also served two terms in the California State Assembly. He has held his current position on the Board for 28 years.
Supervisor Antonovich will address a variety of issues at the luncheon scheduled to begin at 11:30am at the Hyatt Valencia. The Supervisor will discuss his thoughts on "One Valley, One Vision" as well as Transportation, Law Enforcement, Health and Human Services and the financial condition of Los Angeles County.
The 2009 Chairman of the Board of the Chamber, Bill Kennedy said, "We are truly delighted to have Supervisor Antonovich as our keynote speaker on May 27. He is one of most respective public servants in the Los Angeles region." Kennedy went on to say, "This Chamber sponsored luncheon brings incredible member value to them 1,400 members in the Chamber. I am sure the attendees will leave with very valuable information about their Los Angeles County government that will help them with their businesses."
The idea to hold the State of the County event was presented to the SCV Chamber by Signal Publisher Ian Lamont. The Signal signed on as Title Sponsor of the event.
While Lamont was Publisher at the Long Beach Press-Telegram, a State of the County event with L.A. County Supervisor Don Knabe was held each year.
"The first community event I attended when I joined the Signal last September was the State of the City event. It was a wonderful event, full of information and given to a packed house," Lamont said. He added: "So with our unique partnership with the City and County on the OVOV plan and many other issues, it was a natural to have a State of the County event and for Mike to have an opportunity to present current issues."
For information on the State of the County Luncheon, call the Chamber at 661-702-6977 or go to the Chambers website at www.scvchamber.com. All business owners and key company personnel are encouraged to hear a positive about Los Angeles County government and the state of our greater Los Angeles County economy. Cost of the luncheon is $45 per ticket; several sponsorship packages are also available for interested companies.
