July Hiking Schedule
July 5 Hike to the summit of Mt. Pinos. This is an altitude hike. The summit is 8,831 feet high. It is only 2 miles to the summit (4 miles RT). This is not a steep climb, but a very gradual ascent. Bring water, lunch, snacks, sunscreen, hat, etc. We will meet at Towsley Canyon OUTSIDE the front gate at 8:15 for an 8:30 departure. Please be prompt!
July 12 Cooper Canyon-Cooper Canyon is considered by the guidebooks to be the most beautiful hike in all of Southern California. Its shear granite cliffs and pines look very much like the scenery you would see in the Eastern Sierra. We will also see the Lower end of Little Rock Creek that flows year round, and has wild trout in it. It's gorgeous. Because this is an altitude hike, it is a little more difficult. The RT is about 10 miles. The first 4 are easy and mostly downhill. The last 4 miles are uphill. Bring a lunch, lots of water, snacks, sunscreen, hat and whatever you will need for a full day on the trail. Plan to return around 4. Please meet at the OUTSIDE of the Towsley Canyon Gate before 8:00 for departure and carpooling at 8:00.
July 19 Nature Series-Search and Rescue Demonstration by SCV Sheriff's Dept. SAR Team. They will have their specialized SAR vehicle there to show us as well. Demonstration will be followed by a hike in Placerita Canyon to the waterfall. Placerita Nature Center 8:30 AM
July 26 No hike
