City/Sheriff Website Sees 62,420 Visitors in 2008
The City/Sheriff website saw an unprecedented number of visitors to its website in 2008. A recent year-end review revealed that SCVSheriff.com and the SCV Sheriff News Room made great strides to keep contact with local residents' needs.
In 2008, more than 62,000 visited SCVSheriff.com, the Santa Clarita Sheriff Department's main website. In addition to providing standard local law enforcement information, the site's "Ask Sergeant Harris" section, a public reference and frequently asked question center, answered 1,431 resident inquiries.
"I am exceptionally proud of our Sheriff's Department here in Santa Clarita," said Mayor Frank Ferry. "The strides made in 2008 show their continued dedication to keeping local residents safe and informed."
The Santa Clarita Sheriff's Department set the precedent for other law enforcement entities in 2008 when it became the very first to provide a Spanish language option on the website. The Department also worked with a technology team to implement the first ever online LiveScan Fingerprint scheduling system, through which 207 appointments were made. In addition to allowing residents to make appointments via the Internet, Santa Clarita Sheriffs established protocol and procedures for the use of the portable LiveScan system.
"I am incredibly proud of the advancements the Sheriff's Department made in 2008," said Santa Clarita Valley Chief of Police Anthony La Berge. "We will be using the site as a model for other law enforcement entities' web pages in the communities we serve."
SCVSheriff.com and the Sheriff News Room also added a Community Focus section in 2008. Santa Clarita Sheriff's staff provided the content for the page, which included new up-to-date information on T3 Mobility Devices, Shred and E-Waste, School Watch, Pool Safety, Child Protection, Automated License Plate Readers and more. The Department also partnered directly with the City to develop, post and release monthly public safety messages.
2009 is sure to bring even more accomplishments to the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Department. Current web projects nearing completion and launch include a new state-of-the-art "most wanted" section and a revamped "Ask Sergeant Harris" community reference forum, which already met an unprecedented number of community members' needs in 2008.
