Old Town Newhall Streetscape Construction to Begin March 16
The City of Santa Clarita is moving forward with another significant investment in Old Town Newhall the beginning of a new "streetscape" for two blocks of Main Street. Construction officially begins on Monday, March 16th and will include two blocks of street improvements from 6th Street to 8th Street. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed this summer.
Streetscaping is best described as a beautification project that includes pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, streetlighting, street furniture and landscaping. To support the landscaping portion of the project, it is necessary to replace and improve the water and drainage system that supports the area. The streetscape project is intended to transform the look and feel of Old Town Newhall as it burgeons into an Arts & Entertainment District.
"The City has long-been committed to the revitalization of the Old Town Newhall area," said Mayor Frank Ferry. "Along with the streetscape, we are moving forward with future plans for additional services and a new library facility for the community."
To oversee the construction process, and to answer questions from area business owners, residents and customers, a streetscape construction office is currently open and located 24261 Main Street. The City's project construction liaison, Brad Therrien, available Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. via walk-ins or phone: 661-260-3431.
