Santa Clarita Youth Participate in League Basketball Championships
Season Culminating Playoffs Held at Hart High's Court
The City of Santa Clarita's Youth Basketball Program competed in the league championships at Hart High School on March 14, 2009. More than 1,500 local youth participated in the City league, which emphasizes sportsmanship, skill development and fun in a positive recreational environment.
Community youth showcased their athletic talent as they fought their way through the competitive games. When the dust settled on the court, the Clippers (Major I), Nets (Major II), Mystics (Major/Senior Girls) and Warriors (Senior Boys) came out winners. A few games came down to the wire, with the Major/Senior Girls and Senior Boys division champions determined by baskets made in the final seconds of each game.
"It is so important to provide Santa Clarita youth with opportunities to participate in quality recreational activities," said councilmember Laurie Ender. "The league competitions at Hart High School showcased the hard work and skill local kids put into not only the playoffs, but the entire season."
The City of Santa Clarita offers a youth basketball league in the summer and winter season for children ages 5 to 15. The recreational league is designed to provide a controlled competitive environment that facilitates learning, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
