City to Embark on Tree Reforestation Project
Trees Damaged by the Buckweed Fire to be Replaced
On Tuesday, July 22, the City of Santa Clarita will begin replacing approximately 300 trees throughout the City that were burned or damaged due to last October's fire and windstorm. The project is expected to take close to three months.
Along Camp Plenty, 62 damaged palm trees will be removed and replaced with 77 Chinese Flame trees. "These new trees will have increased environmental benefits providing more shade and increased air filtering capabilities, and they have the ability to catch more rain water than the trees being removed," said Robert Sartain, the City's Urban Forestry Supervisor.
The City's Urban Forestry Division will keep track of the new trees being planted by entering them into the newly acquired Tree Inventory software system. Once trees are entered into the system, Urban Forestry can keep track of maintenance, record when the tree was planted, its origins, species and exact location within the City.
For additional information, please contact Robert Sartain, Urban Forestry Supervisor, at 661-294-2518.
