Santa Clarita's First 'Shred Day' Is a Success
The 51 Tons of Trash the Event Collected are Set to be Recycled
Sixteen tons of paper was shredded and approximately seven hundred people participated in Shred Day, a beneficial community event that took place last Saturday, July 26th The City of Santa Clarita partnered with the Santa Clarita Sherriff's Department for the first Shred Day, a drive thru event, where residents had the opportunity to clean house by bringing in all of their sensitive and important documents and had them shredded right in front of them, without having to leave their car. Additionally, residents had the opportunity to bring out their old electronics for a free dumping which resulted in a total of thirty-five tons of e-waste brought to the Sheriff's station.
"The best way to avoid identity theft is to take preventive actions, such as shredding, to protect yourself." said Sergeant A.J Rotella with the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Department. "The community response to Shred Day was so successful in fact, we are already making plans to shred again in the near future."
The City and Sherriff's Department will be recycling all of the tons of waste and trash that they received.
