'Teen Scene' Takes a Look Inside the Teen Brain
"Parenting/Understanding the Teen Brain" is the focus of the 8th Annual Teen Scene Unplugged, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Hyatt Valencia. A popular annual event offered by the City of Santa Clarita and the Blue Ribbon Task Force, Teen Scene Unplugged draws over 600 parents, teens and community members every year. The program is always packed with information and useful resources to help parents and teens get through the crucial teenage years.
A Resource Fair offering valuable information and resources for families will kick-off the event at 6:00 p.m. This year's engaging program will feature Tina Bryson, Ph.D., who will, in her own genuine, practical and humorous way, discuss how the developing teen brain impacts teen behavior and decision making. She will also address questions such as, "Why do teens seem not to think before they act?" or "Why do you and your teen have trouble understanding each other at times?" This dynamic program is scheduled to run from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
In addition to the Resource Fair and speaker, newly updated Parent Tool Kits will be provided to all parents who attend. The Parent Tool Kits include the third edition of the publication "Straight Answers to Tough Questions III," and information on different parenting, and youth and family programs offered by the City of Santa Clarita's Community Services Division. The kit also contains information on juvenile laws and ordinances specific to our City.
The Hyatt Valencia is located at 24500 Town Center Drive. For more information on the 2008 Teen Scene Unplugged, please contact the City's Community Services at (661) 255-4965 or (661) 250-3708.
