Santa Clarita Mayor Calls on Governor to Address Drought
City of Santa Clarita Mayor Frank Ferry is joining with the Governor in respectfully requesting that the California State Legislature return to Sacramento and immediately enacts critical and comprehensive water legislation to address the state's three year drought, environmental issues in the delta, and ongoing water supply for the state.
"California is in the midst of a devastating drought that needs to be addressed immediately and we must prepare for the worst a fourth, fifth or even sixth year of drought. A rainy winter will probably not be enough to save the state, with below average precipitation and runoff since the fall of 2006. If things don't change statewide over the long term then we probably will have local impacts," said Mayor Ferry.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state emergency due to the drought back in February 2009, and is calling on legislators to return to Sacramento to work on this important issue facing California.
